Thanks for the recommendation, unknownartist. I've looked at the Tibetan Book of the Dead, but don't believe I've seen the book of Living and Dying. I'll check it out - thanks again.

Hey man,

This is an interesting podcast. I found this website from the game theory clip you put on youtube. You should check out The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche!

Good point, Joyce. All other things remaining equal it'd be easier to stay positive while dying, but if the nature of the death process is painful and disorienting it'd certainly be a struggle. Still, a serene death seems more attainable if one is resolved ahead of time. It's what I'll be going for. :)

Well, the idea of positive thinking whilst dying is very attractive, but the reality is--if the doctor tells you you have a limited amount of time to live, your body is probably in pretty poor condition. Kidney failure, cancer, all these conditions are painful and the treatment has a lot of side effects. I watched a self-made documentary of a man dying from AIDs and the deterioration was astounding; understandably it was hard for him to remain chipper even though he had a lot of support from friends and family. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you have a medical condition that's going to get you in the next year or so there is more than the fear of death involved.
